Why are Hilton in US so much worse than Hilton branded hotels in other countries?

As a Dimond member, I stayed at 150 Hilton branded hotels worldwide (including 50 in the US). To be honest, I rarely had very good experience with Hilton branded hotels in US. Front desk staff are often not friendly and accommodating, almost never got a suite upgrade, breakfast is usually not great, half of the Hampton don't offer the piece of free snack/drink they promised, etc.

However, my experience in other countries are usually way better, especially in developing countries, such as China, Turkey, Russia, etc. Half of the times I got suite upgrade at Doubletree or Hilton. I often get a super nice breakfast and even free dinner too as happy hour. Front desk people tend to be way more friendly and sometimes even give me additional discounts such as not charging me for room service if it is not too expensive... Also, even when I stay at brands that don't traditionally give upgrades such as Hilton Garden or Hampton, I often get an upgrade too, even when the hotel is almost fully booked.

It is kind sad that Hilton is a US brand but their hotels in US are among the worst. Do you have similar experience?
