I'm new to Hyatt, so I'd read through the whole WoH benefits pages and T&Cs recently. The benefits overview is a little vague - 'may have minimum room type and rate requirements for the underlying reservation' and directs you to the full program terms.

The T&Cs are more specific: "In order to redeem a Suite Upgrade Award at a Hyatt resort, a Member must pay the Standard Rate for a minimum of a deluxe room (such as partial ocean view, ocean view, slope view, Dreamcatcher or Sunrise room, etc.). In order to redeem a Suite Upgrade Award at a Hyatt hotel (that is not a resort), a Member must pay the Standard Rate for a minimum of a standard room."

Now that it's easy to see these, it's clear that it's not quite universally implemented. I see plenty of resorts allowing points upgrades on standard rooms (at the always higher standard rate, as expected) but I'm also seeing required base rates that aren't currently listed among the standard rates, higher than currently available standard rates required at non-resorts, different cash rates for standard vs premium suite upgrades...

I lament that I haven't been in a position to take advantage of these before they went public and got eve even more scarce - but honestly, for my purposes, very limited availability that I can search myself is probably better than pretty limited availability I have to inquire about with a human.
