Despite the song, it does rain in Southern California. That fact means Long Beach's (LGB) choice to not build jet bridges when then renovated the airport a bad one.

The worst flight I ever had was a transcontinental flight between LGB and Fort Lauderdale (FLL). It was December and it was pouring in LGB. Although the staff tried their best to keep people out of the rain, I got stuck on the stairs while someone inside blocked the aisle. (I could hear the flight attendant on the intercom pleading for the person to clear the aisle because there were people getting soaked.)

The umbrellas they provided only kept the top of me dry. I spent the next five hours wearing wet pants.
