Most of the airlines in Europe that use steps rather than the jet bridge are the low cost carriers and that's because using steps is cheaper

I'm puzzled why you think it takes less time to walk the same length of the terminal to the exit after using steps rather than a jet bridge because you still have the same distance to cover!
