Navica app has allowed me to use test kits I bought off ebay. Simply scanned the kit QR code to verify its authenticity. In the app it even says you can use a pre-supplied kit OR purchase one from emed. Optum also sells the kits in bulk, which is where guessing the ones I've found online come from.
I think the reason they say a kit is tied to you, it's to comply with FDA regulations. Technically you must meet criteria to use one. Thus it's like a prescription, technically tied to the person, but nothing stopping you from giving to someone else.
I checked, yes CVS and Walgreens are just self test (home test is what want). However I have bought home test kits on both Amazon and Ebay (purchase, not bid) . They've worked perfectly fine. Simply open the kit and scan QR code when instructed. Theres nothing linking a specific person to a specific kit. All emed does is verify you qualify to use one and then sells you one. Navica verifies your ID using webcam and your profile, they only verify the kit is authentic, not that it was issued to you.
