To clarify here... Hertz in Fairbanks is NOT closed. They are simply out of vehicles for the
entire summer. Basically the same as Anchorage at this point (or darn close to it). If you search Hertz.com for availability in October you'll see available vehicles. The message when you search during the summer months is, "This location is temporarily closed." Yes, it's confusing and misleading, but that's just the usual Hertz

way of doing things.
Anyone who has an existing reservation in Fairbanks, it is likely still valid, but that should be confirmed directly with the local office (don't bother calling Hertz's 800 number as they are going to be completely useless).
Note that Hertz, Dollar, and Thrifty in Fairbanks are owned by a single franchisee and they just bought Hertz in Juneau as well. A different franchisee owns Hertz, Dollar, and Thrifty in Anchorage (Hertz being a recent purchase) as well as Kenai Peninsula including Seward.
