As I've said before (with a muffled sob in my voice) I'm great with computers but pretty much at sea when it comes to smartphones. And no one in the house can help me. I guess I'll just have to slog my way through this.

Did they change the number without changing your SIM? If so, try turning off your phone, take out your sim. Turn it back on, re-insert your sim. Then start Whatsapp and see if it will recognize your new number. People do it all the time when they travel to a different country. They change to a local sim and Whatsapp will recognize the number change and keep you in all the groups that you were in. Other people will see your new number so they don't have to re-add you to the group.
