My local Kroger just informed me that an ID that matches name on credit card is required for all debit and gift card purchases 100 dollars or more. 1st time this has happened to me.
They are just checking your ID. Are they recording it?
If not, it is no different than if you were trying to pay a grocer with a check. They would look at your ID, maybe even write your DL# on the back of a check.
I would not lose sleep over it, especially if all they are doing is carding you
