Don't cancel. The chances are high that one or all of your flights will get cancelled, and then you can request a cash refund. EI pays out fast when the flight is cancelled - speaking from personal experience with my cancelled Christmas flights.
I'm not sure I understand the subtlety in the distinction you appear to be drawing between getting another voucher as opposed to having the value return to the original voucher. (If the original voucher was all used up in that transaction - i.e. if you had to top up payment using a credit/debit card - then it's definitely not going to go back to the original voucher). But ultimately, does it matter much?
You should be doing everything in your power NOT to be issued with any further vouchers - so hang on and hope for a flight cancellation instead. Just remember to cancel your ticket in time, should that flight cancellation not happen.
