I think a lot of people don't realize a member +2 guests at SkyClub is $845 vs $550 for a UA 1K. That is a fairly substantial difference and sure, at that price I would expect a SkyClub to be much better.
with UA I take my whole family free to UC fka RCC. It’s a free hidden perk with JPM reserve card.
with Amex Plat I pay $550 (actually less due to Corp discount) and get 1 + 2 guests into Amex lounge. That doesn’t quite cut it as I have to pay $50 each time for child #2. Even worse with DL lounge where I get zero guests free. DL may have better food (definitely not compared to Polaris) but you pay through the nose.
holding both cards I get plenty of priority pass visits plus guests which covers me well outside the US and even a few US locations if you throw in the restaurants.
I don’t know why anyone would buy a lounge membership - just get a credit card that includes it.
