Fair enough, at that time it was difficult.
We had flights NZ-SQ booked direct with SQ and did get our money back from SQ, although it took a while for it all to be processed. However, given you are talking approx +12 months from flight time that seems silly. As above I would try SQ again or see if you can take a complaint further with Travelup. Good luck.
