Based on the above, it sounds like an int'l-int'l connection isn't possible, but I could be wrong.
I spoke with Aeroflot today and they confirmed a visa for less than 24 hours is not necessary. There is a sterile transfer train between D and C terminals. I am allowed for 24 hours within this zone.
