Landing at Gatwick or Stansted may be convenient if you are transferring to a short-hop flight elsewhere in UK, but not too convenient if your destination is downtown London...

*Stansted is convenient if going to Cambridge, but not for Oxford. Gatwick, being way south of London, is not convenient to much of anything.
