There was a rather public falling out between Facebook and the WhatsApp co-founders because of Facebook’s intent to change WhatsApp direction and erode privacy protections for WhatsApp users.

I remain way more skeptical about Facebook’s concern for WhatsApp user privacy than I do about Signal.

Taking a lot of the opponent’s money and turning a decent chunk of it against the opponent is better than most of the alternatives.
