OP's problem is that he doesn't want a refund.
But, with 2 months notice, AM certainly won't pay for a hotel and it is unlikely that any travel insurance will either. On the other hand, he isn't being "forced" to do anything. It is simply that convenience & comfort may come out of his pocket.
He can contact AM's insovlency administrator about a claim and perhaps in a few years if the claim is adjudicated in his favor, he may see 1-2% of the claim.
