There must be tons of Brits who started their holiday in the last few days and were probably expecting to get back home right after New Years. If all flights wiith europe are shut down, what will they do - just remain stuck in Europe? Have to transit from Europe to Istanbul/Doha/Dubai the long way to get back home?
I imagine flights will still be able to operate but not carry passengers into the EU. That was the case with various early bans in March. Thus, airlines would still be able to carry Brits back home. Whether they will is another question, as they'd have to operate empty flights one way.
On another note, I fail to see why is the UK being singled out, while other countries where this strain was identified don't face any restrictions.
