As a non-rev you will get a standy boarding pass that lets you clear security. You will get your seat assignment and boarding pass once all passengers have boarded. Usually the gate agents are nice and will give you a row to yourself in E+ if one is available.
UA used to clear non-revs earlier on empty routes, but unfortunately this never happens today. I've been told when this happen it was possible to clear into business and access the lounge.
When I've flown non-rev I have been able to get into the United Club with my club membership card (not based on status). I am not sure how lounge access would work if you have status.I would just try and see. This is what happened when I tried at SFO a year ago:
- I scanned my standby boarding pass
- A red "x" appeared and an audible beep could be heard
- I showed my United Club card
- The staff look puzzled and after a few minutes of checking exclaimed with a smile, "Oh, why didn't you tell us you were flying non-rev? Go on in and have a nice day..."
Even though my ticket was linked to my MileagePlus number the club access did not sync through. So I would just try and see. But like anything else related to flying non-rev, it's best to approach everything with no expectations and view anything you get as a nice bonus.
Congrats on obtaining this amazing perk!
