I posted this in AA forum but thought this forum may have more insight. In October 2020 I purchased an AA round trip refundable ticket for India-London-US-London-India with outbound beginning of December and inbound end of December. I checked eligibility requirements and confirmed I had all the necessary documentation. US citizen with oci.

In mid to late November there was a change in the bubble agreement between India and the UK and US citizens with oci are no longer allowed to fly from US to India via London. There was no change in eligibility requirements, US citizen with oci can still enter India.

I checked with AA London during my outbound flight and was told AA would not strand me but reroute me, and that I should call AA reservations in the US. AA reservations says too bad so sad I have to buy a different ticket to get back. They will not reroute me, or refund the unused portion of the ticket. They will only provide a travel credit for the unused portion with such severe restrictions that it is unusable to me.

Question for the experts: Do I have better options here? Any insight on the rules and passenger rights in this situation would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!!
