I can't speak about the outsourced staff at HKG which I haven't heard any experience since COVID.
I also think that it's not safe to check-it on hold; if possible re-route yourself through another airport other than IST.
An iMac may be too large for a personal item according to the Turkish Civil Aviation Directorate decision.
