My accuracy rate for cross-checking items and my ability to grab and retain information just works better with separate/dedicated monitors than it does with a single monitor split into multiple screens within a screen. I wouldn't jump to any conclusion about this being the same for everyone, but I find that a bit more physical motion involved in a visual review process definitely works better for at least some people -- myself definitely -- than a bit less physical motion during a visual review process.
