It keeps the sauce from soaking into the dough and making a soggy crust - a deep dish only problem.

Not to go too far off-topic, but I've never understood why people boycott because of CEOs. It seems to me that a CEO, with all the golden parachutes and severance plans, comes out fine even in the worst case, but potentially the thousands of employees struggling to make a living are hurt by a boycott. I'm not judging at all, but I've often wondered if boycotts don't have the opposite effect of their intentions.
