Technically it's stated as "
29 minutes" but it's basically the same as what you're saying - the second you hit 30 minutes you're into extra charges (normally '1 hour', which is normally about half the daily rate, but it can vary).
The systems themselves are completely strict, however I've had no issues with getting them to manually remove the extra charge (normally by changing the return date back into the 29 min window) on a few occasions when I've been in the 30-60 minute window - but it requires a trip to the desk and asking nicely.
