President's Circle and extra hourly grace period?

I am President's Circle and was planning to pick up my car on a Monday at 1:30 pm and return to the same airport on the following Monday at 6 pm. This brings in a charge for a full extra day.

I thought there was some grace period on PC rentals that would allow me to return this car without incurring the extra day charge. Is that correct? Are my extra 5.5 hours maybe just over the limit?

How can I best manipulate my pickup and dropoff times to avoid this charge? Do those times have to be exactly the same even with PC?

5.5 hours is too long for any grace period for PC members (one hour is about the limit). The Platinum American Express CDP gives a four hour grace; I believe that's the longest possible.

No. Grace period is 30 minutes for everyone unless your CDP has something different (and very few do).

Keep the car for 24:29:59

I do have the Amex Platinum and thought my CDP was already there - I'll have to check. Thank you!

Even with that CDP, you're 2 hours past the 4-hour grace period. Usually, >1 or 2 hours is the same as a full day charge. So you'll either need to shorten the rental to <28 hours or pay for 2 days.

Are you related to the guy who kept his car a week past when it was due?

I'm PC and I returned to EYW yesterday 56 minutes past my return time. I was charged a one hour rate of $45.75. That really sucked.

Technically it's stated as "29 minutes" but it's basically the same as what you're saying - the second you hit 30 minutes you're into extra charges (normally '1 hour', which is normally about half the daily rate, but it can vary).

The systems themselves are completely strict, however I've had no issues with getting them to manually remove the extra charge (normally by changing the return date back into the 29 min window) on a few occasions when I've been in the 30-60 minute window - but it requires a trip to the desk and asking nicely.

President's Circle 4 hour grace period

Two questions on the the President's Circle 4 hour grace period:

1. Is it documented anywhere as an official benefit?
2. Does it apply even to an award rental booking?

Tx

I thought the 4 hour grace period was for the AMEX Platinum / Centurion CDP. I have never heard of a 4 hour grace period for PC members.

Yeah Hertz grace period is 30 min regardless of your status level. As mentioned above, the 4hr is for certain amex cards.

I was able to MODIFY an existing reservation to half-way solve this issue:

Originally was a 10:30am pickup and then 10am drop off a few days later.

Schedules changed, so I modified PU to 8:30am and 11am drop off - Hertz added a $29.64 charge for the add'l 3 hours of rental time.
Did this change online, made sure that "keep same rate" box is checked. I have also called in the past to PC line and had them change it.

Daily rate was like $90-ish, so certainly a bit of an up-charge relatively speaking, but $30 beats paying for a full extra day when all I needed was a few extra hours.
