My guess is that a lot of that is sold to local restaurants, and much of what San Franciscans buy in retail stores -- particularly at large chains -- was not caught locally.
Lake perch fried with a light batter, and broiled whitefish! I really need to make a trip up north soon!
My brother-in-law catches a lot of walleye, so we get a good fish fry now and then too.
