I was quite disappointed in the lack of Hannelie pictures. I guess I’m already spoiled!
Thanks, Jaimito Cartero. Hannelie will make a reappearance in the next TR.

We were able to go into one of the yards to see it a little more up close, but even when it was more “touristy” they were still hesitant about pictures. I have a clear memory of standing below a beached half open cargo ship and being overwhelmed by how small I felt.
In fact, our apartment building was on O.R. Nizam road, just a 5-10 min walk up the road from where the Well Park is (IIRC, that didn’t exist 10 years ago or at least was overshadowed by the Peninsula Hotel across the street). There’s a fascinating War Cemetery just next to the hotel, it’s too bad you didn’t go there, it’s a piece of quiet in an otherwise noisy city. So many memories.
Thank you for a wonderful trip report, and for capturing Chittagong very well with your camera. It makes me realize that maybe I should get back there one of these days.
Fascinating to hear you used to live in Chittagong, dinoscool3. Must have been a cool experience to get a longer term dose of the energy, taste and sights of the bustling city. I had heard they were more inviting of visitors to the shipbreaking yards years ago, but the NGO's have unfortunately (or fortunately) put a stop to that.

Cheers, lb8001. Yes, well out of the way from health and safety regulations in the rest of the world.
