I agree with others that OP is to be blamed as well.

Whether AA was right or wrong, a photocopy is practically a disaster waiting to happen.

Actually, OP may not be a citizen at all.

FWIW - OP mentioned being a British national. As stupid as it sounds, there are 6 kinds of British nationalities, including citizen. Not everyone of them have unrestricted right to enter.
