My understanding is that you are right and, like many, you get no extension of status. I agree it's shabby.
Why not extending the status for everyone?
Well as I say... Who really knows and I guess as the political wrangling continues LH has a lot of big stuff to cope with right now... But my guess is that they see FFs as a captive audience who will be extra keen to keep their status and, therefore, who will take any flights they can in the near future to secure status. Just as Spohr is gambling that the federal government will give him the cash on his terms, LH more widely is gambling that pax will fly sooner rather than later if pressed to do so by status termination dates.
The gamble may well backfire...
