Wasn't actually suggesting Long Beach but if it hits your criteria other than the geography of being on the Westside, you could consider it. I live in what's considered "Downtown" Long Beach so we have short blocks, plenty of dining/entertainment options, and everything is walkable. There's public transportation using the Metro Blue Line (I think it's now the 'A' Line?), which takes you north to downtown LA and intersects with the Green Line halfway (that'll take you east-west). We have Long Beach (LGB) airport (which has limited flights) and are relatively equidistant to LAX and SNA. Unfortunately, the Flyaway to LAX has been cut as a victim of COVID19 and unlikely to return anytime soon.
Since you are averse to driving, you should also consider the simple walkability of your neighborhood. Outside of newer, master-planned communities, you'll find it much more likely to get around by simply walking. Here's a site that gives you a "score" for how walkable your neighborhood is:
