I have read various reports of various passengers having difficulty getting award->revenue or revenue->award tickets through checked as per policy, sometimes needing to escalate that I had assumed it was indeed a manual process involving an over-ride. Although granted, these may have been difficulties when the policy was first implemented, and probably not now.
