Maybe but this can bet complexity as it depents of a variety of factors

Instrad of rehashing all the sub-cases, suggest looking at Refund for Paid Upgrade?

Thanks for the quick info. At this point the return is delayed right around 5 hours so not eligible for a refund. I will read through the other thread on the seat fees.

I just called United and processed a cancellation for the October flights and got the Travel Certificate emailed to me immediately. The rep said my seat fee upgrades would be refunded to the original form of payment in about 21 days.
