Hi All,

Is it legal for airlines to charge taxes while a ticket is refunded?

I planned my travel from SFO to BlR in March end. However, I received an email from Emirates on 2nd week of March that my flight is cancelled and my ticket is postponed to next day of my actually planned date. I asked customer care incase if I can get get a refund and the customer support said yes. I went ahead and cancelled the ticket on 3rd week of March. However, I got an email after 1 month that I have options to retain my ticket for 24 months, voucher etc. I chose to get a refund for my ticket. I now got to know that they are dedcuting taxes and surcharges from the ticket. Is there a way to get my complete money as the flights were cancelled and I haven't used their service ? Is this legal to airlines to not refund my complete ticket amount ?

Thanks for your help.
