Apple chose to introduce a new phone in one of the worst time in term of economy. Given many people are forced to be at home, don't see how people will be interested in getting a new phone.
Not everyone, but sometimes you just need a phone. The SE2 is a very very capable budget phone, with current hardware at a very good price point.

My adult kid is trying to decide what phone to buy, as her SE1 is close to the end of usefulness for her - she needs more storage, more camera.

My XS died while I was traveling overseas when Covid was just getting started. I'm currently using my old backup SE1 16GB, which is woefully inadequate, though I really really like the physical size. I've ordered an SE2. It'll give me some breathing room for a while, and I'll consider the 12 series when they come out. At that point, I can hand the SE2 down/over to someone else. We have a 7plus and another SE1 which are also getting a bit long in the tooth.

I have some older clients who have iphone 6 and are beginning to feel the pinch to update. This could well be what they need.
