I have developed a palate for sharper tastes. Love high IBU IPA and am definitely a peat fan myself. For reference, my dog is named Oban in part because it is way easier to call out than Bunnahabhain. Still I am not a fan of smoke with smoke. Good meals balance flavours.
I wouldn't want smoky whisky with a smoky food, it overwhelms a single set of tastebuds.
