I used an upgrade on the last possible day in November 2018. Since then I have changed the flight dates a couple of times, most recently to May 2020. I called Thai Airways in Bangkok last week and the person advised me that based on the current situation I had to rearrange the flight by 7th September 2020 and departure should be by 15th December 2020. Furthermore, I was advised that I could use the Award on another route, but had to arrange by 7th September 2020.

I think Thai Airways will be flexible. Problems may include lack of award seats with less flights at least in the forseeable future after flights recommence (or maybe not as less people will travel) and in my case too many awards of different types that may be difficult to use for various reasons.
