THAI extends Platinum membership due to Covid-19
THAI has extended my Platinum membership for another year, as a result of COVID-19. I was quite amazed at this generous extension, especially as I was in danger of not re-qualifying under the 80,000 miles x 2 rules. As long as I had traveled at least 40,000 miles in Royal Silk/First in either of the two years (which I did), then they extend the membership.
Well done THAI!! A successful PR move........at last!

That is reassuring. I have 2 flights AKL LHR booked for May, both cancelled. One is on an upgrade and one for my partner is a points trip. Both booked last year so the 12 months validity of the tickets expires in September. Are Thai giving any leeway in this validity? Impossible to get through to the AKL office and don't want to bother them at this early stage as they must be overwhelmed with cancellations.

AKL-BKK-AKL Q class GUP to J
BKK-ICN-BKK Y award using 50% miles for Gold
BKk-SIN and SIN-BKK awards in J
Likewise haven’t wanted to bother the AKL office, but considering cancelling given assessments of a very severe economic downturn. In the big picture giving up the GUP and cancellation with refund seems prudent.

They could actually use this disaster as a way to entice ROP members back who had already ditched the airline en masse due to the changes in the program late last year, while also saving face.
..... but they won't.

My Platinum status is valid until Aug 2021. I had planned all the travels to re-qualify 80k for the first year (Aug 2019 - Aug 2020) but all flights have been cancelled.
I wonder what my re-qualification will be. So far, I have received no communication on this.

I used an upgrade on the last possible day in November 2018. Since then I have changed the flight dates a couple of times, most recently to May 2020. I called Thai Airways in Bangkok last week and the person advised me that based on the current situation I had to rearrange the flight by 7th September 2020 and departure should be by 15th December 2020. Furthermore, I was advised that I could use the Award on another route, but had to arrange by 7th September 2020.
I think Thai Airways will be flexible. Problems may include lack of award seats with less flights at least in the forseeable future after flights recommence (or maybe not as less people will travel) and in my case too many awards of different types that may be difficult to use for various reasons.

I've got an email today. Is there any hope?
Dear Sir,
Thank you for contacting Royal Orchid Plus.
We do appreciate your continual patronage as one of our valued member for a long time.
Honestly, at this moment, there is no policy about accumulate period / status extension.
However, our management is now considering regarding this matter, may we ask you to
wait if there is any public announcement.
In the meantime, we send you our best wishes and hope you and your loved ones stay safe
and healthy.
