Ah right, I didn't read the actual linked article as I'd already read a couple of others on the same subject. Those didn't mention that the flights were actually to China. An interesting excursion for an aircraft and crew that wouldn't normally leave Europe.

EDIT: I just saw that the same aircraft flew Athens-Mumbai non-stop last week (6hr33min) while still configures for pax. I'd guess that was a repatriation flight. Pretty impressive range. The return was via DXB.
