Since you are very concerned about the possibility of losing your money (and you have good reason to be, it could happen), I would cancel now. I very much doubt things are going to be business as usual in May/June. The Inca Trail will still be there and waiting for you next year.

I wouldn't plan any replacement trips,either, not yet at least. Better to be flexible and see how this progresses rather than trying to make long-term plans.
