This is a very good question. During Y2K it was proposed to ground all of the world's aircraft over New Year's Eve. It was then realized that there wasn't enough room to park them all. It may be that there is enough cargo traffic to keep enough planes flying so there is enough room. Otherwise, perhaps on some motorways/autobahns/freeways?
