Sorry that the OP went thru this, but
lesson learned.. .always double check everything around your seat, and the overhead bin (if your lucky enough)
and never leave the pane without doing a mental check of everything you took out for the flight
I see no reason to rush off the plane, unless you have a very tight connection.
