A friend of mine recently paid $7,000+ to fly to Paris on less than 24 hours notice. Fortunately, he was able to get the BF seat he wanted. After he was seated, he was approached by someone who wanted to switch seats with him so that person could sit with his friends. My friend refused because he didn't like the seat he would have had to move to. That person then had the nerve to ask the FA to ask my friend to switch with him without telling the FA that he had already asked and been turned down.
My friend was none too pleased and let it be known to the FA. The FA was very embarrassed when she learned the full story and said she never would have asked if she had known.
So the next time someone refuses to switch seats, consider that they may have paid thousands of dollars for a BF seat rather than a few hundred dollars that you may have paid for a Y seat.
Yes, there are a lot of people who arctually do PAY to sit in BF.
i get annoyed if someone asks me to switch out of my bulkhead seat, but if its not, (and the switch is not going to put me in a middle seat or take me out of an exit row), saying "no" is absolutely absurd, rude and self centered.
it should make you feel good to move to a different FC/BF seat just in order to allow someone to sit near their friends while traveling on a 8 hour flight.
