Edited to add: It looks like LIRR ticket machines can handle contactless payments with chip-based "smart" cards, but apparently not Google/Samsung/Apple Pay:

LIRR within the past month or two has done some sort of EMV upgrade on their Ticket machines. Last time I used one(to buy a 10-trip ticket @ LIRR Bellmore), I was able to use Apple Pay no issue. Previously, I think it was only about 5 machines systemwide that supported contactless.
