Just out of curiosity, were the nonstops prohibitively more expensive? If so, what about connections in ICN or TYO? As others have noted, PVG ensures that the connection process is inconvenient.

I will note that MU's new connection process is fairly well designed, except S1 (not all flights use S1, mind you) entails a remarkable amount of walking.
