I had a similar issue a couple of months ago. To create some evidence I used a 'db meter' app on my phone and showed it to the staff. In this case the noise disappeared the next day. The way the hotel handled the various issues over numerous stays made me change my booking and stay at another property.
In my case I did not expect any compensation so I cannot help with that part.
