The quality of the hotel rooms in downtown might surprise you. I'd certainly rate the rooms at the Golden Nugget, Downtown Grand and California to be better than the Flamingo, MGM etc. Add to that the strip properties will likely cost you 50% more; and the strip casinos will have way worse gambling (things like triple-zero roulette, and 6:5 blackjack)
