They don't clear all upgrades 4 days out though. If R=0, upgrades won't clear. They'll wait until the gate, or AC may choose to clear certain people's upgrades in a different order.

But yes, it does suck to buy a very expensive Y fare very close in and get stuck in Y while P25Ks on K fares are in J.
