A T class would very probably be a Tahoe, Yukon or Expedition, which are exactly what you're looking for. The L4 would likely be a Buick Enclave, Nissan Pathfinder, or Kia Sorento.

If you want a big American SUV with a big engine, rent a L4 or T. I'm not a fan of the Nissan Pathfinder (and I don't think I would care for the Kia Sorento either). You could get a Traverse, Enclave, or Acadia, but you also might not. I recommend you rent the T. They are often better equipped and I get the feeling you will appreciate the extra space and power.
