I’ve found that Hampton Inns have more motel quality staffing and atmosphere, whereas HGIs can be more formal with nicer rooms and better trained staff. I’d never pay premium to stay in a Hampton, as with SF downtown or DC. I’d still have to look at those huge tacky adverts stuck on their elevator doors.
