I agree. If one spends enough time in Mexico to make a meaningful connection, the theme of violence, and its pervasiveness in all aspects of daily life is impossible to ignore. And as a tourist, you may not think it affects you, but it does. The most extreme example is Acapulco. Very few NOTB tourists have experienced violence there. To this day it is still possible to go there for a week or two, do touristy type stuff, and fly home with no inkling of the city's struggles. But the city has changed, profoundly. The nightlife of this city has gone from 7 days a week to 3, even along the "club-row" part of the costera. Most places are closed by 2am on the nights they are open. For years, there was little or no new businesses opening, and a fair of businesses closed operations along the bay to move over to diamante, or have closed entirely.

The violence, while it may not be seen directly, absolutely affects tourists in the services and offerings provided and the hours they are open. Everything nowadays is done with security in mind.
