And yes, as some here have touched upon: having the same renewal date simply eases the logistics of renewing, rather than having any travel between November and February affect each one of us differently.
And for those who asked why we both need Gold: most airlines only give the extra luggage benefit to the cardholder, not necessarily to everyone on the reservation (the way United does).
