Yeah, likely. AC's willingness to take control is a bit of a mystery.

True, mostly. Tickets are often booked to "cities", so like LGA/JFK/EWR would be considered the same. And agents sometimes allow that to be expanded out to close (but not "the same") locations.

With that said, I doubt there are any flights from Toronto to near Boston that aren't to Logan.

But if you mean to suggest you could get a MAD-BOS via Montreal or NYC or something (on even non-AC metal), that indeed is theoretically possible. Since you can get your money back the they willing to deal, but if your RT was, say, $2k they aren't rebooking you direct, off brand, on a ticket with a list of $5k.
